Choosing the right cartridge depends on your phono stage's gain and your turntable's tonearm. Moving magnet (MM) cartridges suit lower-gain phono stages and are typically easier to set up; moving coil (MC) cartridges offer greater detail and dynamics but need a phono stage with higher gain and lower noise.
